The Story
Pepe brings the ghost of Philippine national hero José Rizal into present-day Manila, where he looks at the lives of his people and sees ongoing corruption and political oppression. Written by Malou Jacob, the play shows Rizal as a human being and reflects on the struggles he and his family faced during Spanish colonial rule. First commissioned by the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the play has been performed internationally, including its North American premiere in 2023. The creative team includes playwright Malou Jacob and director, producer, and actor Francis G. Matheu. The production is further shaped by sound designer Jethro Joaquin, projection designer Joyce Garcia, and costume designer Clara Rose Von Horn-Foy.
