The Story
Trade picture-perfect holiday expectations for a theatrical serving of family dysfunction in Talkin’ Turkey, presented by Shadbolt Centre for the Arts and Arts Club On Tour. Created by the Mom’s the Word Collective- Jill Daum, Alison Kelly, Robin Nichol, Barbara Pollard, and Deborah Williams- the production turns the “season of giving” into the “season of forgiving” with sharp observations about the people, traditions, and tensions that gather around the holiday table. The collective’s mix of raw humour and humanity looks beyond polished celebrations to the messier realities of family life. Big laughs, sarcasm, and candid storytelling come together in a show that recognizes families in all their forms, whether joined by blood, choice, or circumstance. With three performances over two days in the Studio Theatre, audiences can choose an evening show or a Friday matinee. The approximately two-hour production contains coarse language and mature content and may not be suitable for children. The performance also uses water-based theatrical fog and strobe lighting.
