What to Bring & Insider Tips

Insider Tips

  • ๐Ÿ’ก

Arrive early on summer weekends โ€” very limited residential street parking fills quickly. Blackie Spit Park has a dedicated lot as overflow.

  • ๐Ÿ’ก

Watch for swimmer's itch in warm summer water โ€” towel off immediately after swimming.

  • ๐Ÿ’ก

Be aware of the strong undertow from tidal action and the Nicomekl River โ€” swim only in the roped-off area at Sullivan Point.

  • ๐Ÿ’ก

Dogs are not allowed on the walkway May 15 to September 15, but Blackie Spit Park (short walk north) has off-leash areas year-round.

  • ๐Ÿ’ก

Explore tide pools at low tide โ€” sea stars, crabs, and small fish in pools along the shore.

  • ๐Ÿ’ก

Walk to Blackie Spit for world-class birdwatching โ€” 300+ species recorded, including harbour seals on sandbars at low tide.

  • ๐Ÿ’ก

Whale watching trips depart from Crescent Beach Marina daily, peak season April to October.
