Fun Facts
The building’s iconic cone shape was inspired by a Coast Salish cedar-woven hat, designed by architect Gerald Hamilton for the 1968 Centennial celebrations.
The Space Centre houses an authentic Moon rock brought back by NASA Apollo astronauts — one of very few on public display in Canada.
The Gordon Southam Observatory offers free public stargazing sessions on clear weekend evenings, weather permitting.
The Planetarium Star Theatre uses a Digistar 7 fulldome projection system — the same technology used by NASA and leading planetariums worldwide.
